Thousands of older people are in desperate need of food, shelter and sanitation, Millions have lost their homes.

Thailand is suffering its worst flooding in five decades. One third of the country’s provinces have been devastated, nearly 500 people have been killed, and millions of people have lost their homes. The agricultural industry has been badly hit, and three million acres of farmland have been damaged by the flood water.

Thousands are already living in makeshift camps and evacuation centres, and the threat of yet more flooding is still high. Some parts of Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, and its suburbs are flooded. Land, businesses, homes and possessions have been destroyed.

Donations to buy food, fresh water and medical supplies are urgently needed to help alleviate the suffering of those affected.

In a few weeks, the flood waters will recede and the media will leave, but the effects of the disaster will be felt by locals for many months to come. The medium and long term aid campaign will focus on providing equipment and money needed for reconstruction, sanitation, health and hygiene, as well as the financial issues associated with any disaster.

Donations received will be directed at the flood-affected villages. The money received will purchase equipment and materials for maintenance and rebuilding, food and fresh water, new seeds for replanting of crops and whatever else is necessary to improve the conditions of the victims.

We’re supporting people to rebuild their lives

We are aiming to deliver food, water and blankets to 1,500 older people in the provinces of Ayuthaya and Chainat in coming winter (November). We will deliver aid by boat, using a network of local volunteers.

Recovery work is underway, with support available for those affected and opportunities for everyone to help others in need.
